The video, projection design and installation work of Cherie Sampson engages immersive, projection-based sculptural environments merging natural materials (including small trees and silk), along with live durational performance. Rooted in her early experiments in analog video in the mid 1990’s her installations often integrate footage of environmental performance, live action, and multi-channel video projection to create experiential spaces. Presented in gallery, museum, theater, and semi-outdoor settings internationally, Sampson’s practice consistently foregrounds the body, the environment, and staged performance for the camera as interconnected elements that portray layered visual and literary narratives, often inspired by cultural and ecological themes.
